Shaheer guides Midwest Stars to a winning start

Updated: May 26, 2021

The inaugural American T20 trophy match at Hanover Park started off with the right note with a high scoring encounter. While it appeared the rain would play spoilsport, ground staff, organizers and playing teams managed to get a shortened 12 over game started.

Before it rained, Manan Patel (Chicago Players) won the toss and chose to bat. After the ground was ready to play, Chicago Players innings was given a boost by some lusty hitting by the skipper & Abhinay Baki. With Samir Chaudhari’s cameo, it appeared Chicago Players had enough on board with 127 in 12 overs.

Midwest Stars had other plans. While they lost their first wicket in the first over itself, the Fire & Ice batting duo - Shaheer & Karan - ensured the team stayed ahead of the required run rate. They took calculated risks and key boundary hits exactly when needed. While Samir bowled a very good 10th over causing a flutter with Karan’s wicket, couple of hits by Sargam ensured Midwest Stars got over the finish line by 11.4 overs

MVP - Shaheer Hassan 61 runs in 33 balls, with 3 fours and 5 sixers

A fitting final shot to compete this closely fought matchup in what what appears to be a very promising tournament.
